Visitors looking to jailbreak ios 6.0.1 on iphone 4s or iphone 5 untethered or tethered must be disappointed because still we are waiting for release of a legitimate and authentic iphone 5 jailbreak on iOS 6.0.1 or 6.0.2.
By following the below process you should be able to jailbreak iOS 6.0.2 on iPhone 4, iphone 3gs and iPod touch and if you have 3gs old bootrom then you are lucky your iphone 3gs ios 6.0.2 jailbreak is untethered.

If you are looking for untethered jailbreak for iphone 5, 4s, iPad 4,3,2 and iPod Touch 5g, then there is no good news and just yesterday i0n1c has just tweeted that Apple has put more strict measures on latest ios versions making iOS 6.1 untethered jailbreak more difficult.
If you have iOS 5.1.1 or older versions on your idevice including iphone 4s and iPad 3 you can jailbreak 5.1.1 untethered using the Absinthe or redsn0w jailbreak tool. Check our free jailbreak download and installation guides.
How to Jailbreak 6.0.2 Untethered / Tethered
Download latest version of redsn0w i.e. 0.9.15b3 from our redsn0w download free page. Extract the file, by default the folder can be opened from downloads in my documents.
Download iOS 6.0 firmware for your device from this ios 6.0 download page.
Open the redsn0w.exe file and go to Extras => Select IPSW and browse to the ios 6.0 firmware file which we downloaded in previous step, select the file and go back to main redsnow page.
Now turn off your iphone and connect it to computer using the usb cable. On redsn0w main screen click Jailbreak and then click next the jailbreak program will require you to put iphone in dfu or direct firmware mode. You have to only follow the screen instructions and press the combination of buttons as mentioned and once the DFU mode is detected the jailbreak process will start automatically. You will also see some activity on your device and it will reboot after few minutes.
If you are jailbreaking iphone 3gs then it is complete now and you can start using Cydia 6.0.2 and download and install jailbreak apps and tweaks. If you are jailbreaking iphone 4 or iPod Touch 4g then you have to boot your idevice tethered using the redsn0w again.
Open redsnow go to => Extras => Select IPSW => Browse and select the iOS 6.0 ipsw file which we downloaded in the beginning of this tutorial. Go to main screen and click Extras => Boot Tethered. Again turn off your device and put in dfu mode when redsn0w asks. The device will reboot and you shall be able to use the Cydia on 6.0.2 or 6.1 now.
The 6.0.2 jailbreak process is completed but still this is tethered 6.0.2 jailbreak that means if you are restarting your device due to any reason and you still want to use Safari & Cydia you must boot tethered using computer as we mentioned above.

Good news for jailbreakers after a break that the existing tethered jailbreak has been updated by iphone dev team and now you don't need to install Cydia seperately using putty or command line. There are many new features in the latest update which are mentioned as below by official blog. The good thing is that it is providing untethered ios 6.0 jailbreak for iphone 3gs old bootrom devices.
There are many new things which we are working on and soon will be releasing tutorial on jailbreak and restore etc.
Download RedSn0w 0.9.15b1 For Mac OSX Mountain Lion (Use ctr+Click and Open)
Download RedSn0w 0.9.15b1 For Windows (Open as administrator by right clicking)
- restore from any 5.x iOS to any other (up, down or the same) 5.x iOS on all devices as long as you have the correct blobs (see more below)
- Cydia now included in the tethered 6.0 jailbreak on A4 devices
- automatically "Just Boot" tethered when qualifying A4 device connects in DFU mode
- untethered 6.0 jailbreak on old-bootrom 3GS
- untethered 6.0 hactivation on any 3GS or iPhone4
- directly restore pre-A5 devices to earlier firmware – no more complicated 15-step how-to's with stitching, iTunes errors, and "hosts file" concerns
- fetch new signed blobs for any IPSW (present or future – no redsn0w update required) using Extras->SHSH Blobs->New
- block the BB update for any 3GS or iPhone4 restore (past, present, or future – no redsn0w update required) using Extras->Even More->Restore
- deactivate any iPhone, useful for testing your "official" unlock status through iTunes. (Please only deactivate your own iPhone!)
- activation status shown on "Even more" page
- significantly more (very nerdy) info returned by "Identify" button when device is in Normal mode
- tethered jailbreak of ATV2 supported (but the only thing available for it is the SSH2 custom bundle available here – no Cydia yet. Must use "Select IPSW" for tethered boot of ATV2 for now).
- auto-exit WTF mode for older devices with broken buttons
- any time a set of blobs is fetched remotely (from Apple or Cydia), redsn0w also saves them locally (and will check there first if you click "Local")
- for your future restoring convenience, you should also submit all of your past and present TinyUmbrella blobs to Cydia if you haven't done so yet. Resubmitting is okay and won't cause conflicts.

Welcome to JailbreakStation’s ultimate jailbreak guides, tutorials and free jailbreak downloads. There have been hundreds thousands of new smart phones and tablet users emerging daily in the mobile phone community. If we talk about smart phones like iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, BlackBerry, Sony Xperia etc in most cases people are buying these smart phones and tablets under an annual contract from different carriers. The phones purchased on contracts are mostly carrier locked means you can not use another SIM cards on these phones, so there comes the question of phone unlock and jailbreak iOS and Android devices.
Many people also think these are same terms but there is difference between jailbreak and unlock, by unlocking your phone you can use it for any carrier and there are many unlock solutions available in the market that even does not require jailbreaking.
In order to give brief ideas about the different terms and phrases used in smart phones community I decided to write this article, and I hope you shall get very useful information after reading the rest of this page until you find last section on how to jailbreak.
What Is Jailbreaking?
Jailbreaking is process of installing some exploits on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, that gives you access to the root drive of your iDevice and gives you liberty to install any apps that are developed for iOS devices, especially the apps or games that are not allowed on Apple app store due to any reason.
When you jailbreak your device an app called Cydia is installed on your idevice which works like an app store where you can search, download and purchase hundreds of jailbreak apps, tweaks and themes etc.
The most famous jailbreaking software are RedSn0w and Greenpois0n’s Absinthe for both tethered and untethered jailbreaks.
Equivalent to the jailbreaking is the term Rooting which is used for Android devices. Rooting also gives the access to root of the Android devices so that you can install the apps you want and manipulate the system files of Android mobile phones and tablets.
Jailbreaking does not affect the warranty of an idevice because if you restore your device by using the iTunes it becomes similar to the state when it was activated initially.
Tethered vs Semi tethered vs Untethered Jailbreak
A tethered jailbreak is normally an initial version of jailbreak, in which, after jailbreak if you need to reboot your device due to any reason you must connect it to a computer and reboot using jailbreak software like RedSn0w or Absinthe, otherwise it may not boot properly. In case of semi tethered jailbreak you can reboot your device without using computer but your Safari and Cydia will not work. Untethered jailbreak means your device once jailbroken will work normal even if you reboot when you need.
Why Jailbreak?
There can be many reason a person may need to jailbreak, some of which are:
- You want to unlock your device free using unlock software like Ultrasn0w etc.
- You need variety of free themes to be used for your idevice
- You want to install jailbreak apps that are available on Cydia
- You may need to get paid apps for free using some apps like Installous
- You want five column springboard.
- You want animated app icons
- You want to use different icons then the existing ones
- You want to change your carrier logo
- You want to change your battery icon
How To Jailbreak?
There are very few choices if you want to jailbreak free of cost i.e. Absinthe to jailbreak 5.1.1 and RedSn0w to jailbreak on older versions of iOS i.e. jailbreak 5.0.1, 5.1, 5.0, jailbreak 4.3, jailbreak itouch, iPhone 4, 3gs, and iPad1. Also you can jailbreak Appletv using the specific appletv jailbreak tools.
