Below is the step wise guide on how to jailbreak ios 5.1 semitethered.  Please note that this jailbreak for ios 5.1. is not compatible with iPhone 4S, ipad 2 and the new ipad that was released yesterday. If you want to jailbreak ios 5 on iphone 4S and iPad2/3 it is recommended that you keep on existing iOS 5.0.1 and refrain from updating to ios 5.1. You can jailbreak 5.0.1 using Absinthe for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The jailbreak which you will get by following procedure is semi-tethered which means you have to apply the last steps every time you need to restart your device. Similarly if you need to unlock or you already have unlocked your device it is better to not update to ios 5.1.

Following are the steps on How To Jailbreak 5.1

Step 1: Download latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.10b6 by clicking below links:

Step 2: Extract the zip file and run the RedSn0w.exe file to start the redsn0w jailbreak process.

Step 3: There are two buttons “Extras” and “Jailbreak”, click Jailbreak to jailbreak and install Cydia

Step 4: Follow the instructions given on Next screen and put your iPhone/iPod Touch in DFU mode. Press Next.

Step 5: Follow the screen instructions to put your device in DFU mode. RedSn0w will detect iPhone and start installation of jailbreak and select “Install Cydia” when asked. (If this process does not start you can follow steps to put your device in DFU mode as instructed by clicking Next in previous step again). Close RedSn0w.

Step 6: Boot Tethered your iphone or iPod touch 4g: Restart RedSn0w by double clicking the RedSn0w.exe file.

Go to Extra option and click “Just Boot”

Your iDevice will restart and now it is jailbroken tethered.

Note: This is a tethered jailbreak and if you need to reboot your iphone you need to do step 6 each time therefore you need computer to reboot your iPod touch 4g.

LATEST UNTETHERED JAILBREAK CAN BE RELEASED ANY DAY

As mentioned in one of our previous post about a breakthrough that jailbreak Dream Team was moving out of sandbox problem and jailbreak dream team has “really great stuff to escape from the sandbox.” Today a new update was given by pod2g about A5 untethered jailbreak status on his blog, I am copying his update below for you:

Here are some news about the current work on the A5 research. @planetbeing escaped from the sandbox with the help of @saurik. Thanks to their awesome work, there should be nothing left blocking for the A5 jailbreak.

Now it should be a matter of days. Still no precise ETA of course.

We all want this to be finished ASAP, we’re getting tired!

Jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2 – Get Ready and Do as Under

Get ready! If you are planning to jailbreak iPhone 4S or iPad 2 you have to ensure that your device is ready before the jailbreaking tools are released.  This can happen that Apple decides to stop signing 5.0.1 and your device is not on firmware 5.0.1 so you will be in trouble and unlucky.

 

Normally Apple can do this before a new version is released, and withe 5.1 update can be released any time. Using your device you can update your device and it is very simple and doesn’t require iTunes so it is right time to update with existing version.

You can update by going to Settings —-> General —-> Software Update. To further ensure you can preserve your SHSH blobs once on 5.o.1 by using TinyUmbrella.

So start counting the days a new jailbreak is on its way for iPhone4S and iPad 2.

Jailbreak iPhone4 Untethered

iPhone and chronic development teams have released new RedSn0w 0.9.10b3 that can be used to jailbreak iPhone 4. If you are jailbreaking first time this guide is for you and if your iPhone4 is already jailbroken which I am sure is tethered you can just upgrade your tethered to the untethered jailbreak by going to Cydia and searching Corona 5.0.1 untethered and install.

Following are the steps to jailbreak iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1.

You can use this tutorial for jailbreaking iPhone4, iPhone 4, iPhone 4 CDMA, iPhone 3GS, iPad1, iPod Touch 4G and iPod Touch 3G

If your device is having old version of iOS please upgrade by going to iTunes, new iOS 5.0.1 can be downloaded in step 1 below:

1. Update your device with iOS 5 / 5.0.1.

 Click here to download iOS 5.0.1.

2. Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b3 on your computer.

3. You have unzip/extract the RedSn0w downloaded file and open the folder containing the extracted and double click RedSn0w.exe executable file to start jailbreak process:

4. RedSn0w will run and you will see following screen on your computer. Now connect your iDevice with the computer and turn it off by pushing power button and sliding to power off.

5. Now select “Jailbreak and Install Cydia”

6. Now you need to put your device in DFU mode, before pressing the Next button on next screen make sure your device is turned off and plugged into your computer. If you know how to enter DFU mode you cal do it right now without clicking Next and jailbreak will start.

8. Now you have to do the following steps as shown on screen shot. Do whenever these are highlighted while processing.

  • Hold Down the Power button for 1 second.
  • Without releasing the power button press and hold the Home button (bottom center) for 10 seconds.
  • Without releasing the Home button release the power button but keep holding the Home button for 15 seconds.
Important: At this step most of the people are confused and unable to put the device in DFU mode. You may see the following screen. Also your device may be showing Apple icon flashing or device is restarted. Don’t panic just click Back button and again Next. Don’t follow onscreen sequence do as under:
  • Press and hold both Power and Home buttons and count 1-10 normally (even if device is On).
  • Release Power button and keep Home button pressed until you see any activty on computer screen. Repeat same if no activity observed.
Redsn0w will process itself to complete the jailbreak process if there is no error.

9. Now you will see next screen to install Cydia select the first option “Install Cydia” and click Next. You can select other options also if you need.

7. After the RedSn0w installation is completed you will get a done message. Congratulations Your device is now jailbroken.

Final Step: Now you need boot your device through redsn0w. Start as in step 6 up to step 8 to execute the RedSn0w. Select the Extras and then Just boot. Put your device in DFU mode and your Device will reboot untethered.

Thanks to Chronic development team and iPhone Development team who have released the latest iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak with the help of pod2g. This release is 0.9.10 beta 1 version of RedSn0w and very easy to install and jailbreak. If you are having following devices running on iOS 5.0.1 you can jailbreak using your computer. Download RedSn0w by clicking below link and visit my article How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 4G, 3G for step wise guide. You can also watch the video at the same page before starting the jailbreak process.

If your device is already jailbroken with older versions of RedSn0w it means it is tethered and needs upgrade. Just run Cydia go to Search and Type Corona 5.0.1 Untethered Tap it and select Install and then Confirm. Within few seconds it will download the upgrade and your device is jailbroken untethered.
