If your ipod touch 4g is having untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1 or older versions and after release of new iOS 5.1 you want to update to ios 5.1 and then jailbreak again iPod touch 4g, please note that the new ios 5.1 has been jailbroken tethered already and Pod2g is working hard to get the iOS 5.1 jailbreak untethered ipod touch 4g very soon (subscribe to my blog below for update).

For the time being you can jailbreak iPod Touch 4g ios 5.1 tethered using RedSn0w 0.9.10b6 by just following the tutorial below.

The 5.1 jailbreak tutorial is very simple to jailbreak iPod touch 4g on ios 5.1.0. The below steps are also compatible with iPhone 4/3gs, ipod touch 3g and ipad 1 on iOS 5.1 by using the latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.10b6.

Important: You have to note that this is tethered jailbreak that means every time you need to restart your iPod Touch 4 you have to follow the last step of “Just Boot”.

Below are the steps on How to jailbreak iPod Touch 4g.

If your ipod is not running on iOS 5.1 you can update to iOS 5.1 by visiting Apple website or through iTunes or directly from your device.

Important Note: This jailbreak is not for iPhone 4S jailbreak, iPad 2 or iPad 3 jailbreak if these are running ios 5.1 otherwise if they are running ios 5.0.1 then this 5.1 jailbreak will work well. 

Step 1: Download latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.10b6 by clicking below links:

• Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b6 For Windows
• Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b6 For Mac

Step 2: Extract the zip file and run the RedSn0w.exe file to start the redsn0w jailbreak process.

Step 3: There are two buttons “Extras” and “Jailbreak”, click Jailbreak to jailbreak and install Cydia

Step 4: Follow the instructions given on Next screen and put your iPod Touch in DFU mode. Press Next.

Step 5: Follow the screen instructions to put your device in DFU mode. RedSn0w will detect iPod Touch and start installation of jailbreak and select “Install Cydia” when asked. (If not you can follow steps to put your device in DFU mode as instructed by clicking Next in previous step again). Close RedSn0w.

Step 6: Boot Tethered your iPod touch 4g: Restart RedSn0w by double clicking the RedSn0w.exe file.

Go to Extra option and click “Just Boot”

Your ipod will restart and now it is jailbroken tethered.

Note: This is a tethered jailbreak and if you need to reboot your iPod Touch you need to do step 6 each time therefore you need computer to reboot your iPod touch 4g.
